Pumpkin Body Scrub

Made with all-natural, food-safe ingredients, this pumpkin spice body scrub will leave your skin glistening and moisturized.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup turbinado sugar
  • 1/2 cup cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (Cinnamomum spp.)
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger (Zingiber officinale)
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg (Myristica fragrans)
  • 1/4 tsp ground clove (Syzygium aromaticum)
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice (Pimenta dioica)
  • 1-2 tbsp pumpkin seed oil

Instructions

  • First, measure both types of sugar, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, clove, and allspice into a bowl. Mix the dry ingredients with a fork or whisk for a minute or two to evenly combine the spices and both types of sugar.
  • Then add the pumpkin seed oil one tablespoon at a time. The goal is to add enough oil to evenly coat the sugar and spice mixture so that it won’t clump and harden, but not so much that the sugar is swimming in oil. We want the final product to have the texture and consistency of wet sand.
  • I recommend storing your scrub in a plastic or metal storage container with a lid. Keeping the body scrub covered will prevent excess moisture buildup. Also, it is wise not to use glass because you don’t want to risk broken glass in the bath or shower.
  • Shelf life: 6-12 months in a sealed container

Notes

The pumpkin in this recipe comes in the form of oil expressed from pumpkin seeds. While this wasn’t available in my local grocery stores, I was able to find this organic, cold-pressed one online. Pumpkin seed oil contains tocopherols or vitamin E which has antioxidant properties and can help to protect the skin from free radical damage caused by sun exposure.
